Last picture in front of our house. Bye house. You will be missed!
As Alex and I started our trek I decided to go 40 and stay away from 70. Yes 70 would have been faster and less stressful because you stay on that road for most of the trip and go about 75 the whole time. 40 is a little more adventurous. Also in deciding this I would be able to go to Monticello. Who knows when I will go back. Alex at the arch along the road. Wilson? I think. He wanted to go to the Park but no time.
When we go to Monticello stopped at the cemetry. Haven't been since Gandma died. It was nice to see that the front was carved but disappointed that the back didn't get done. I didn't have flowers but a visit with nothing is better than not at all. Stopped and saw Grandpa's sister and her daughter. They didn't recognize me but remembered me. That is how long it has been. Sad!
Through a pass in Colorado outside of Durango the road had signs saying watch for elk only 55mph and had a zone. I didn't know why until I look in one field and there was hundreds and hundreds of elk. I thought it was a farm but no just wild elk. Crazy! This is the second time we say these elk.
Made it to New Mexico the first night. Not a great picture but Alex was a trooper the first day. No pool so I owe him big time.
As I was getting lost in New Mexico and turning around for the second time I saw this and said we had to stop to take a picture. Alex didn't want to get out but wow amazing! Can't put into words how this makes you feel as you pass it on the road. Look what so many heros have given to us so that we may be free. Thank you is not enough but thank you.
As we treked the first day through the rest of New Mexico, Texas, and into Oklahoma we saw many crosses and different churches. Big cross in Texas that you can see for miles. I wondered if it was lite at night. Now being in Aiken Alex just keeps saying there is a lot of churches huh mom. Yes a lot of the same one with just a little difference to the name. No many LDS chruches - one.
Made it to Oklahome the second night. Off and on rain and by the time we got to our desitination it was early but I had enough of driving in rain that went side ways because the wind was so strong. Don't love driving in the rain. Hit the road pretty early to stay ahead of stroms. I don't love driving in the rain when I am not sure of where I am going.
Made it to Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama the third day. Thank you for the presents Jenny and Chana or we would not have made it through day 2 or 3 without them We tried to get pictures of the other states but just a short time in Tennessee and so welcome center in Memphis for the short time in the state. Missippii failed too. I thought for sure that Alabama would but no such luck.
Day four was rainy no matter how early or late we left. Still on Centeral time so we did get a good start. Stayed in Birmingham and lucky was going East because the West traffic was backed up for 7 miles and not moving. Huge accident. And right by the accident they were burning huge slash piles for a clear cut. I mean huge in flame and huge piles and it was raining very hard. So we made it to Georgia in the rain.
I told Alex make sure you get me in the picture with the sign. Well he got me and the sign just not the parts I wanted.
Finally made it to South Carolina. Alex wondered why we were still going after we made it in SC. 30 more minutes and we will be at the apartment. We made it!!!!
Side note: We made it Friday and Donovan was coming Saturday. So we got the van unpacked. We don't have beds or dressers so we have to live out of suit cases and sleeping on mats on the floor. Not ideal but it will do. Donovan gets off airplane with a fever. Thanks Derrick I really needed a sick kid at this time. Sunday somehow find clothes to go to church. Probably I wouldn't have gone but the week after was conference so I just wanted to go so people knew I was here. Well it didn't matter I went to the wrong ward. Get back and Donovan is asleep. He went home early from Chruch not feeling good. He slept from 11-4. Can you say tired? So we take him to the dr Monday - thanks to Allan's friend. Jump through hoops to get medicine because we haven't got prescriptions in SC. I think okay all is well. Not Aubrie runs a fever all night back to the drs. Okay I want to go home. I have been here for 4 days and at drs 2 times. Day 5 - things a little rough at the apartment and before I explode I leave to take a break. On my way home some old man who shouldn't be driving turns left right in front of me. Yep left side of car all dented and my cell phone is dead so no way of calling anyone. Luckily for me and old man and women let me use their phone and even stay by for a witness. Yes wondering why is this happening what am I suppose to learn. Still not sure what I am suppose to learn a week later. So find someone to fix my car after jumping through hoops with the insurance. The old man didn't have any idea what was going on or able to talk to. So went and go it fixed the man who fixed it with Carolina Collision fixed my other side where it was all rusted too. Great guy thank you thank you. Now I have a working van!
